Who'd have thought I’d want to see Charlie Simpson of ‘Busted’ fame through a camera lens instead of just a rifle scope. With a mix of hardcore angst and melodic rock Fightstar took a ready crowd and turned up the heat. Mixing in turn rock guitar with verses more vocally lead Fightstar were a surprise. Vocalist front man Charlie put his all into the performance and with an equal share of charisma bassist; Dan Haigh worked-up the crowd into a frenzy... but if the crowd liked that, then Madina Lake certainly delivered the goods. Post-hardcore, grunge and punk have all been words used to describe their music. But nothing prepared me for how much I would enjoy their part of the gig. Lead singer, Nathan Leone, all but crawled over the crowd. Spending most of his time meeting and greeting in the security pit throughout the chorus, only retiring to the stage occasionally to sing with an intense and captivating energy.
Then came the hair.
More traditional hard rock engulfed Rock City when Coheed and Cambria delivered the finishing blow for the night with their guitar lead progressive rock. Between dodging descending crowd surfers and enjoying live rock music the gig was an electric experience.
