The Alley Cafe
Description
Fantastic little bar doing veggie food and housing probably the largest selection of soft drinks that are enticing enough to drink instead of alcohol.
Saying that, the staff are well savvy about the alcohol they serve and are also genuinely pleasant and enthusiastic about their work. DJ nights can be nice and chilled, and this is one of the few places in town where even with a DJ playing you can hear yourself speak.
Comfy seating adds the final touch to a seriously cool place.

And they write on the mirror.
by myhouse-yourhouse Sep 15, 2008, 04:16:27 pmOne of my favourite places in Nottingham. A great bar in the evenings with all sorts of musical entertainment and a hideaway to hang out in during the day. The general "friendlyness" of any venue can be guaged by the number of regulars. I don't mean regular's that pop in for a pint once a week, I mean those who are there every day, have got on first name terms with one another and the staff and generally add to the entire vibe of the place.
I'm no vegetarian, but I eat here regularly. The "Specials Mirror" is changed very regularly and features seasonal starters, mains and desserts. There's often some great vegetable pate's to be had, or imaginative and extremely healthy soups.
The standard menu is nothing to be sniffed at, however. Any beef burger fanatic wouldn't be dissapointed by their Tempeh or Hemp burgers which come served with a mountain of potato wedges, relish and plenty of salad with a great nutty dressing. The create-your-own pizza is always tasty (even though vegan cheese is used) but the Spicy Halloumi and Chickpeas is probably my favourite. For only 4 or so you get a bright red bowl of warming goodness with sour cream and a toasted tortilla to mop up all the sauce.
If you've still got any room left, the Soya Ice Cream is unbelieveably creamy. Add the chocolate sauce and you'll be hooked.
Pop in at any time of day, pick up on of the papers available daily. The only thing I feel they might benefit from is a free Wifi connection.
by daley thompson Sep 16, 2008, 11:40:32 amnice venue and food yes but also incredibly small so if it gets more than say 20 people in there it's rammed
plus don't whatever you do ask if they serve guinness

by shinybingohalls Feb 25, 2009, 11:30:12 amOne of my favourite places in the city. The special cocktails are great and I love the artwork displayed on the walls. Really chilled out place, great music, and organic larger - doesn't give you any less of a hangover though unfortunately!
