More about LeftLion and the team...

LeftLion.co.ukThis paraphrased sentiment from Arthur Seaton, the anti-hero of Saturday Night And Sunday Morning (the ultimate Nottingham film), sums LeftLion up perfectly. In a city of glossily faceless magazines and money-orientated directory websites, LeftLion shines out as the only local media outlet that talks in a Nottingham accent, isn’t scared to duck the issues that affect where we live, but still wants to go out and party afterwards.

We first launched this website on 1 September 2003, because we wanted something like this to use for ourselves. It soon became Nottingham’s virtual meeting point for people interested in finding out what was happening in their neck of the woods.

Within a year or so our web traffic increased to over half a million page views (or impressions) per month and kept rising. According to the census 2004 mid-year population estimate, the City of Nottingham has 275,100 residents. So nowadays we get around two page views per month for every person who lives in the city. In other words, we’re pretty popular and trusted by Nottingham’s internet community.

We are now a firm fixture in the culture of the city. Our website offers the most up-to-date events listings, regularly updated articles on culture in the city by some of the city’s best writers, a useful directory of venues, regular podcasts featuring Notts music and a chat forum for people to natter about Notts to their heart’s content.

We also run a few things aside from this website. We have a bi-monthly printed magazine which is distributed to over 100 of the city venues and is read by 40,000 people in the city. This is now the most established entertainments-led magazine in Nottingham. We also put on two regular monthly music events in the city centre to showcase local talent and also the occasional bigger blowout when we feel like it. Oh, and we also donated our time and services for Drop In The Ocean, Nottingham’s unique city-wide music festival which has already raised enough money for the construction of orphanages and shelters in Cambodia and South India.

So as you can see, we’ve got the city locked down in ways that other local websites and magazines can’t even hope to. If you’d like to work with us, find out more by clicking one of them links below…
