NFFC Blog looks at the start of Forest's campaign, and finds little to get excited about |

A lot of draws, a defeat, and worryingly shy of scoring goals is how our season has begun. The season opener was a rather dour 0-0 draw with Bournemouth, followed by a rather dour 0-0 cup game away at Chester City, which thankfully we were able to win on penalties. This was followed up by a backs-against-the-wall 0-0 draw away at Swansea. The first open-play goals were to come in our next home game. Many would say that a mere three points from our first four league games is a poor return – and it's hard to argue the point too strongly. We have played impressively in short spells, and we do have injury problems – but well, we had a 15 point lead on Leeds United at the start of the season that has already been whittled down to 6 points. Certainly it is vital we see an improvement soon in terms of results. Off the pitch.. August started with a campaign to save the disbanded 'Sherwood the Bear', who had been supplanted in the summer with an even more sinister figure with which to scare the children, and possibly worry many parents. Leeds were finally granted their golden share, and deducted the fifteen points they've almost won back to start from zero again. In being picked up by Leeds newsfeeds I discovered that they have a pretty formidable online following! Virgin Media very kindly started publishing reasonably comprehensive highlights of Premiership and League football, which saves being fleeced by the rubbish 'Forest World' service. Dorus De Vries, the Swansea 'keeper, embarked on an amateurish attempt to stir up the media in the aftermath of our game with Swansea – which, bless him, only really succeeded in making him look a bit of a plank! Mark Arthur picked up where he left off preseason, and gleefully proclaimed our forthcoming League Cup game with Leicester City an opportunity to rekindle a rivalry that very few Forest fans actually buy into. After this assertion was picked up on Leicester news feeds, I discovered that just as I had lots of interesting and civilised comments from Leeds fans on previous stories, such stories appeared to attract utter morons from down the A46. Hey ho! Despite lots of speculation, there were no deadline-baiting deals despite hints from Smoulders and the inevitable 'I've got a source' type posts on the message boards. It was disappointing, and certainly losing out to the likes of Port Vale was quite galling – but there is still the emergency loan system in place, and indeed the January window when we'll be missing Agogo for the African Nations – so we don't need to be too hasty. Diversions... There hasn't been much in the way of diversions of late, sadly – if you hear of any then please do feel free to drop me a line. One thing that is upcoming on the Forest calendar is Stan Collymore's appearance at The Approach. The night clashes with Forest's Johnstone's Piss Pot Trophy game – but should be illuminating nonetheless! I shall report back on anything interesting from the Dogfather...
