Nottingham is truly blessed with five-star musical events this Bank Holiday weekend, and one of the absolute highlights is kicking off at Igloo on Saturday May 3. Firefly, local raving connoiseurs of no little repute, have linked up with the nation's leading radio station to lay out an incredible line-up for your tab-holes.
Yes indeed, Radio 1's Introducing tour swings through the NG this weekend, bringing a stellar line-up with it. Your headliner is none other than Adam Freeland, purveyor and orignator of drone-step (a combination of whimsical shoe-gazer pop and druggy, atmospheric beats) and the man who first pioneered the concept of live bands in breaks. An iconoclastic figure, he's still one of the UK's heaviest hitters, a feat he shows no signs of relinquishing.
Bringing up the rear is Radio 1's very own Annie Nightingale, the grande dame of underground excellence, R1's longest-serving veteran, and the first lady of breaks. A true champion of the darker wave of dance music, her DJ performances mirror this sparkling resume, combining gritty rhythms to devastating effect at each performance.
Next up is Alex Metric, the current tour de force of the breaks, house, and electro worlds. His searing productions blend the vital components of each of these genres in a smorgasbord of dance floor intensity, lighting up labels like Mantra, Fourtwenty and Freeland's Marine Parade. Luke Dzierzek makes his debut in Notts - the Bedrock and Silver Planet producer famed for his prog-tinged electro sets. - and Deepgroove, the four -decked monster recently crowned as best breakthrough DJs at the DJ Mag Best of British Awards, bring up the rear
Add Firefly's contribution of local DJ' s Thrash Jelly, Celtec Twinz, Ripp Off and The Beat Repeaters, and a monster line-up is complete. Advance tickets are stilll available here - more on the door. And it's being broadcast for Radio 1...
