Futureproof Arts Festival is Nottingham’s cutting-edge celebration of electronic visual arts and music. Spanning Saturday day and night at twin locations, Nottingham’s Art Organisation (Station Street) and The Social (Pelham street) this is the creative underground made legit.
This will be the place to be seen, an event talked about, the future’s history. Compiled of a day’s events of free workshops, discussions and film and a night of immense music at an affordable price, this can’t be missed. Those interested in off-the-wall stuff will be there, those with an artistic interest will be there, sound artists, DJ’s, producers, amateurs, students, art and music lovers will all be congregating to the future.
Organised by the host of Futureproof parties at Blueprint club this lady sure is passionate about her basement arts. During the day you have the opportunity to discuss with Steve Goodman AKA Kode 9, his latest book Sonic Warfare: sound, affect and the ecology of fear. Then, local bod, Kalam Joory, dubstep’s Geoim, will be presenting a fascinating cultural history of the synthesiser, from analogue, modular to modern software synths. Shiom Sviri (Shlom) will also be providing an industry insiders view of how electronic music has changed over the last decade. So all you homemaking musicians can get your ear to the floor and find out what is in store for future music.
Workshops are also provided by Pure Data, using buzz machines and Ableton music software. VJing and live video techniques will also be demonstrated. There will be simple amplifier constructions, speaker cabinet designs plus the opportunity to build you own gramophone. Don’t forget to check the big screen for Emily Wilczek’s fine film curation themed as sound on screen.
By night the two rooms of the Social are taken over by the Futureproof acts for some rather large bass, sweetly selected electronica loops and samples full of chilling flavours. Presenting London’s dubstep scene is Kode 9, whilst Geiom, the man with all his Atari attire, will be backing up Nottingham’s dubstep revolution. There is also Brackles from Berkane Sol records, Shlom, Bizmarc and Noise* all to aurally delight during the night.
Futureproof festival is on Saturday 3 May 2008 1pm – 6pm free at The Art Organisation and 11pm – 4pm £4 at The Social.
