| Yunioshi: Expect free cake at a Yunioshi gig! |
They'll put a spring in your step and make you grin like a kid stuck in a jam sandwich factory. You can't fail to be charmed by their super cool wide-eyed shuffle and they might even feed you some cake too! Meet Rob, Anna and Hakushi from Yunioshi, one of LeftLion's favourite bands and playing for us at Brownes on Friday 21 November...
What have you been up to recently?
Rob: We've been quite busy since our last Leftlion gig. We've had a couple of our tracks used for adverts, been down to Maida Vale to record a session for various BBC Introducing shows. We've been off to Iceland to play a show in Reykjavik and celebrated the return of our long term absentee Hakushi Yunioshi. He's been out of action for 7 months while he's been through spinal rehab.
What kind of people do you think will be into your music?
Rob: I'd like to think that we attract people who appreciate the finer delights of home-baking and Odelay-era Beck, Robots and old childrens toys.
Anna: People who like to dance their socks off and are partial to a robot or two.
Hakushi: Anyone who used to love watchin 'battle of the planets'
Describe your style in ten words or less…
Rob: Robot-Funk-Shit
Anna: A Fairly Funky Feel...sorry Jim someone had to say it!
Hakushi: When androids attack the school disco.
What are you listening to at the moment?
Rob: Bloodgroup
Anna: Ladyhawke
Hakushi: Little dragon
Tell us about one of your songs and what inspired you to write it…
Anna: LaLaLa is about a happy day spent in Brighton, good times!

| Yunioshi: Rocking out at Junktion 7 |
Best gig you've ever played?
Rob: I think the Leftlion gig on New Years Eve last year. I bloody loved it!
Anna: If you can call it a gig Maida Vale was such an amazing place to play and I sometimes still can't believe we did play there!
Hakushi: My homecoming gig at The Maze earlier this year, was great to be out of hospital.
If you could get anyone in to make a song with who would you choose and why?
Anna: Probably Feist because she would bring some lovely qualities to the song with her husky voice and she's a good mover so she would be fun to perform with!
Hakushi: I think Jean-Jaques Perrey would add some fine cartoon-moog moments.
If you had a super power what would it be?
Rob: I had a dream about Heroes recently and the best 'ability' that my subconscious could muster up was the ability to play the piano quite well. Not brilliant, just competently. Well done me.
Anna: To freeze time and then who knows what I could do...
Hakushi: To turn random buildings and vehicles into lego!
What's your ideal night out in Nottingham?
Anna: Cake and tea in Lee Rosy's, a film at Broadway finished off with a pint at The Malt Cross, nice!
Hakushi: Goin' to any 'Hello Thor' supernight & forgetting how much i'm spending whilst watchin the little bowls go round at yo-sushi
What’s coming up next?
Rob: The rumour mill tell tale of a return tour of Iceland, potential gigs in Scandinavia and the arrival of EP3. We are also on a Universal Music compilation which is pretty damn great news! Look out for more UK gigs and even more cakes.

Seen them live so many times this year and its always fun, I'm hoping to go to this gig on Friday if I have time...
by Mean Nov 21, 2008, 04:03:39 pmLooking forward to seeing these chaps tonight. I hear there will be free cake?
