Quality.

Looking forward to the Alexei Sayle feature - seems like an interesting bloke.

Trivial, I know. But I thought we were officially in recession now?
"Credit Crunch" is sooo 2008!

I'll pick one up and read it in the queue at Forest tomorrow.

I groaned.

This years big media buzzword to replace terrorist, WMD and Al Quaeda:

CREDIT CRUNCH

Raaarrrr.

by D Feb 06, 2009, 07:59:36 pm
Last year's big media buzzword, surely, as it's alan points out. And strangely appropriate given your other examples since a unregulated financial market has done what Bin Laden never could and brought decadent Western civilisation to its knees.

As for the cliche, 'Financial Apocalypse', whilst more accurate, has less alliterative zing. And 'The End Times' sounds too ecumenical.

But anyway, read it, bitches! It's flipping great and will cost you nuppence. I'd tell you what I thought the best article in there was, but I can't, because each one is literally better than all of the others - that doesn't make sense but it's a fact - it's like some crazy penrose triangle of quality local journalism.

Agreed. Read the mag and you'll see we've done it with our tongue firmly planted in our cheek. For example, the guide to Nottingham Paahnd Shops...

. . . since a unregulated financial market has done what Bin Laden never could and brought decadent Western civilisation to its knees.

Really? Y'see - that's my point. I, none of my family or any friends that I know of have felt any effects of a credit crunch/recession. There's some industries - banks, housing and automobile that have but then you have to say they've somewhat been the root of the cause.  Undecided

A lot of this is to do with consumer confidence - and when you have a media that sells itself on fear and scandal they're also to blame. I've seenthe media completely balls up stuff like the eclipse in '99, the millenium bug problem and also Millennium Celebrations through constantly banging on a bout a problem that didn't need to exist.

. . . anyways - hope it's a good read. Is there an online copy for us 'out of towners'?  Smiley

Cheers guys!

We got some copies delivered to my pub this issue, and it is a brilliant read. It completely saved me from the depression of Saturday day shifts by myself. I still have half of it to read when I'm on tonight! It makes a welcome change to old copies of the Nottingham Drinker.

Is the PDF available? It's not on http://www.leftlion.co.uk/magazine yet
by Adrian Feb 13, 2009, 12:33:59 pm
Just read a bit of the pdf download and it looks good. Also, realised that you have published my Mum's memorial poem! Wow, how sweet to know that and thanks! Although it has to be said, every time I read a poem of mine that has been published on the mag, I bloody blush like a school child!! ..  laugh Undecided

Must get hold of a hard copy to keep!  thumbs

No.

That'd be like calling your shop 'The Miners Strike' or 'The Growth of Nazism In Central Europe'.
