Get yourself outdoors this week and watch Nottingham City Centre come to life with music and performances, as part of Light Night 2009.
The attractions start on Thursday 12 February when the Nottingham Eye, the gargantuan Ferris wheel which dominated the citys skyline last year, will open for the second time in the Old Market Square alongside lighting displays galore and even an interactive dance floor!
The main event then kicks off on Friday at 6pm when visitors can show off their moves on the outdoor disco, take a ghostly tour of the city’s backstreets, browse art galleries after dark, step back in time at Brewhouse Yard, enjoy music in the Market Square, become part of interactive street projections and be generally dazzled by light installations across the city centre. Prepare to meet a host of characters on your adventures, including a10ft Goddess who will lead her entourage through the city streets.
New spaces including the Trinity and Lace Market Squares along with Chapel Bar and Hockley will be animated with music, performance and light. Visitors can take advantage of Light Night late night offers, including discounted travel, retail, bar and restaurant offers, with venues such as Dogma, Snug, Saltwater and the Cornerhouse all getting in on the action.

Light Night has already been a success across Europe and is now being presented simultaneously in Britain’s Core Cities. In 2008 the event attracted a record number of over 40,000 visitors into the city centre which has allowed it to span two nights in this years calendar. The event looks set to be a significant step up from last years activities and with the exception of some of the tours the majority of the activities on offer are free of charge.
