Currently carving a niche as Leeds' finest slackers, with chaotic but charming live performances typified by playing their songs far too fast and falling over, Wonderswan make warm, fuzzy slabs of lo-fi noise pop.
Most recently they appeared on the Dance To The Radio 4x12 compilation, and have played with Times New Viking, No Age and Lovvers, among others - 2009 is shaping up to be a pretty special year for them.
Wonderswan bring their raw, honest, ramshackle brand of musical mayhem to Seven (Canning Circus) on Thursday 11th June. If you like Pavement, Urusei Yatsura, Dinosaur Jr, Sebadoh...basically, if you like to party like it's 1994, then this could be the gig for you. Mitch Gavel caught up with Wonderswan drummer Ged.
Where did you start out in music?
Wonderswan has been going for about a year now, although we have been in a few different bands in the past and all been playing from a tender age. Singer Mike has played with Leeds-based bands Grammatics and Held By Hands and I played with Boyracer in the 90's and sing and play guitar in Downdime.
Who plays what in the band?
Mike: guitar and vocals. Russ : guitar. Sam: bass. Me: drums.
What's your favourite of your own tracks?
Hey Nature is a good one. Also we should have the track Furrpile being released on 7” in the not too distant future. We also have a bunch of new tracks that don't have names yet that we are enjoying a lot at the moment.
What are your favourite cities and venues to play?
London has always been good, we have good friends that run a night at The Old Blue Last, it’s been fun going there and hanging out with those guys. Glasgow has been good. Sheffield too.
If you could get anyone in to play with you, who would you choose?
Mark Arm or Lou Barlow Who are the best upcoming artists we should check out? Copy Haho, The Manhattan Love Suicides, Maggie 8, Favours For Sailors.

What can people expect from the show on 11th June?
We're pretty noisy and have been getting it together a lot recently. I’d say expect some nasty feedback and maybe some falling over.
What do you listen to on the stereo at home?
Mudhoney, Pavement, Unwound, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart.
If Wonderswan had a superpower what would it be?
The ability to travel to other dimensions.
What was the last album that you bought?
'Bring It Down' - Madder Rose.
What was the last book you read?
'Madness & Civilisation' by Foucault.
What was the last thing that made you laugh?
My housemate Ben, he’s a real card.
What was the last thing that made you cry?
That bit in the film "Independance Day" where the president has to explain to his 5 year old daughter that her mum is dead and the world has been taken over by a powerful alien race!
What is coming up for Wonderswan over the next year?
We have a first single out soon, we’re hoping to write and record another EP over the summer and do as many gigs as we can.
Do you have any advice (good or otherwise) that you'd like to share?
Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
Wonderswan bring what The Guardian called "A beautifully shambolic fuzz laden racket...the sound of beautiful chaos" to SEVEN (Canning Circus) on Thursday 11th June (8:30 – midnight). Entry is £3.
Playing with them will be the anthemic, sweaty, furious sounds of Twenty Year Hurricane and Nottingham’s cross between Woody Guthrie and the Rutles, Curtis Whitefinger.

Also whilst you're at it, the deranged genius that is Dan Toporowski has put together a video full of overblown images of random natural disasters for Twenty Year Hurricane - www.myspace.com/20yearhurricane
