Army of Walking Corpses - they're dead good!

Army of Walking Corpses are a Nottingham-based horror punk band who are apparently real life zombies… their sound is a little like if The Misfits mated with the Cramps and produced an undead love child who went off the rails as a teenager and got into metal.

Introduce us to your image and sound
Mangle: We’ve been called ‘the UK’s heaviest horrorpunk band’ which sums us up about right.
Machine: A little bit of Punk, a little bit of Metal, a little bit of Rock and Roll…
Nikolai: We’re Army of Walking Corpses. The name and accompanying pictures should say all you need to know. A boy band we are not.
Frankenfiend: We’re a man band!

Any deep history behind your name?
Machine: I got the name from a song called The Dead Rise by The Crimson Ghosts. The lyric goes "here come the army of the walking corpses". The Crimson Ghosts’ name is derived from the Misfits logo, so being a Crimson Ghosts fan; I thought Army of Walking Corpses was a fitting link to all things Horrorpunk.

What is the next year bringing for the band?
Nikolai: Well, we have a few projects that we are sworn to secrecy about. The ones we can talk about however are awesome!
Mangle: We’ll have a download only E.P available through forums and our ReverbNation page  in the weeks leading up to Dark Waters, and recent photo shoot to accompany the release, with a video in the works as well and further touring around the UK  throughout the year.

As a local band what memorable Nottingham gigs have you had and why?
Mangle: I loved it when we played The Maze with Trioxin Cherry, for not only two cracking sets by both the bands but a great sense of community.
Machine: Our first gig at the Central in Nottingham was a favourite for me. We had high expectations of ourselves. We were all ready to go; the crowd was ready to go as well. The place was busy and we got a great response from them which just made us play harder
Nikolai: And we haven’t looked back since.
Mangle: Well, we can’t can we...
Nikolai: True, I really should get that new spine.

Where would you really like to play a gig at?
Nikolai: I think as a Nottingham based band, we’d have to say Rock City. Wouldn’t we?
Machine: Aye.
Mangle: Between the four of us we could easily cover all the exits to get our pick of the braaaaiiinnnsss!!!!

Finally, can you give us some make up tips?
Machine: Are you insinuating we're not really zombies?
Frankenfiend: It's always best to start with a light base and add on. It can be very difficult to get the right shade, especially when trying to blend in with the living...
Mangle: Which isn’t easy given the zombie’s natural complexion…

Army of Walking Corpses play the Dark Waters festival at the Brittainia Boat Club  on Saturday 12 May.
