Richard Snow plays this month's LeftLion Presents at the Malt Cross
We put some questions to him beforehand...

Richard Snow on LeftLion

Richard Snow is a solo singer songwriter from Nottingham. He was a member of the band Enellen in the late nineties, before concentrating on his solo recording and making two solo albums as Richard Snow. The second one got UK distribution and so you should be able to pick it up at shops around the city centre. He's also started doing some live stuff to help promote it, which brings him to LeftLion Presents at the Malt Cross on Friday 30 September.

Tell us about your music..
The music is power pop kind of stuff. 60's influenced, lots of vocal harmonies, rickenbackers and tunes. On the album I multi-track myself and play all the instruments. If I'm playing live I either do stripped sown acoustic versions or have a small band with me , depending on what is appropriate.

What kind of influences do you have?
Brian Wilson, Phil Spector, The Byrds, REM, The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, Del Shannon

What are your favourite hangouts in Nottingham?
I don't seem to get much hanging out time, I have other musical commitments at weekends, I play covers for money! Having said that, I enjoyed playing at The Rescue Rooms recently. I'm hoping to get to see Hal there. The Cookie Club, I've not been there for ages, but that used to a favourite haunt.

Will you be playing at the Goose Fair fringe festival this year?
I'm playing a gig at Hotel Deux on October 16th, I believe that is part of the Goose Fringe. There's three act's on, I'm playing at 5pm. Looking forward to it...

Richard Snow on LeftLionWhat was the last album that you bought?
I think it was Postcards by Daniel Wylie, I ordered McCartney's new album today. I'm having a bit of a vinyl phase at the moment actually. I bought Evolution by The Hollies, Hal- Don't come Running (7") and Portrait by The Walker Brothers

What was the last book you read?
The Magician's Nephew-C.S. Lewis (again).

What was the last thing that made you laugh?
The Cat In The Hat- Mike Myers film. On 24 hour rotation in my house

What was the last thing that made you cry?
When my Granny died.

If you could get anyone in the world to record a track with you, who would you choose? Phil Spector, as long as he left all weapons at the door. Jeff Lynne maybe, loads of people hate him but I love his productions.

What are your other favourite artists or bands in Nottingham?
Sibling are good, I engineered their last CD. I saw a band called Seretone a few months back who were good. I guess Nic Armstrong is the strongest thing to come from Nottingham at the moment. I saw him at The Social last year and he's dead good live, sounds better than his album.

What is coming up for you over the next year?
More gigs I hope. I'm playing at The Cavern In Liverpool next year at the International Pop Overthrow. I'll start recording again at some point aswell.

Anything else you want to say to LeftLion readers?
Yep. Buy my album!!, It's called Tuesday Music and it's distributed via Proper so you should be able to order it anywhere.
