| LeftLion: repping Notts since 2003 |
LeftLion was formed in 2003 by a small collective of writers, designers and web gurus who felt that no-one was giving Nottingham the media coverage it deserved, local creative sorts weren’t getting the chance to flex their skills, and we were bored with lying media gimps portraying our city as a crime-infested rat-hole.
Our website - leftlion.co.uk – rapidly became Nottingham’s first and best dedicated culture and entertainment website; so much so that we decided to launch a free magazine in September 2004. LeftLion quickly became the de facto alternative magazine of choice in Nottingham, because – unlike the competition - it was unashamedly proud of where it came from, treated Nottingham and its people as if they were worth writing about, and cranked out 100% original content.
At present, over 200 of Nottingham’s best writers, photographers and illustrators contribute to LeftLion, because they care about Notts as much as we do. At present, we create a free bi-monthly magazine available in over 300 outlets across the city, Nottingham’s most comprehensive entertainment listings section, the city’s most detailed directory, and communicate with over 100,000 people in Greater Nottingham.
But we do far more than just a magazine and website; we host regular music and spoken word events. We have a suite of music and entertainment podcasts. We’ve hosted our own city festivals. We’ve pitched in on big local events that have raised thousands of pounds for charity, and we produce our own range of merchandise. We’re LeftLion, and we love Nottingham.
“It’s intelligent, funny and, skillest of all, speaks in a Nottingham accent. And it’s available for free, purely because they have a passion for their city. You need to check out LeftLion.”
