After what’s been a two year hiatus from platform events in Nottingham, Hatch want to mark the end of their Hatching Space programme with a return to its roots. The event, Hatch:Mass will be taking place on Wednesday 12 December at Spanky Van Dykes from 7pm til late. An apt place indeed, Spanky’s was the original site of Nottingham Playhouse and it’s full of nooks, crannies, grand staircases, screaming violet interiors and curious things in vitrines. Hatch want to fill the space for the night with the most exciting performances around. And this is where you come in…
They’re holding an open submission for performance/live artists, experimental theatre troupes, site-specific dancers, cabaret artistes and pataphysicians to present work which is likely to succeed but not afraid to fail. They love a performance which teeters on the edge, crosses borders and boundaries, or falls right into the cracks between disciplines. The night will be a party, it’s going to be live and it’s going to be for anyone and everyone.
Roving, durational, one-to-one work, one offs – are all welcome. They want work that riffs of the theme of Mass in any way imaginable and/or that works in interesting ways with its surroundings. They want to pull down fourth walls and encourage you to experiment with new ideas in a supportive and celebratory environment. Equipment, technical support and open space for this event are limited, so work which is lo-fi, technically self-sufficient and takes place amongst the audience is especially welcome; but if you do need any help or support, they will endeavour to assist in any way they can. A fee of £250 is available to each selected artist/group to cover expenses.
So, if this has got your brain buzzing and your feet itching – in a good way – get in touch with them or grab an application form from the Hatch website. Closing date for submissions is Wednesday 14 November.
