| Kiss Corona getting ready to play the Hit The Deck Festival |
Rock-pop quartet Kiss Corona are no stranger to Rock City and are the only Nottingham band to be playing at this year's Hit The Deck Festival. Not bad for a band who are yet to play their first headline show...
How long have you all known each other?
Phil: Me and Steve are brothers so we’ve known each other all our life.
Steve: It’s true, unfortunately. We met Alex while we were searching for a drummer. We hit it off amazingly and we all agreed on how we wanted the band to sound and we’ve been great friends ever since.
You’re currently recording aren’t you...
Alex: We’re currently demoing all the new material we’ve written at home. So we’re not actually in a studio but recording it in Phil’s bedroom so we can get a taste of what it’s like. We’re going to be recording the best tracks professionally soon though.
As an unsigned band, have you had any interest from labels?
Phil: We have had some interest, but we haven’t signed anything as of yet. We just want to make sure it’s 100% the right thing for us. For now we’re just writing tons of new material.
Alex: We’re trying to make the most noise so people in the big companies hear us. Like Tinie Tempah says: "You’ve just got to keep screaming ‘tll they hear you out!’"
How supportive do you find the Nottingham music scene?
Steve: The Nottingham music scene has been awesome to us. We first played Rock City back in January 2010 and ever since then it’s been amazing every time we play there.
Phil: We can’t believe we’ll be playing Hit the Deck festival. It’s just another thing the local music scene has helped us with. It’s going to be amazing!
Are there any other Nottingham based bands you would recommend we check out?
Phil: Go and check out our good friends in a band called Paint This Town. They are seriously amazing.
Who are you influenced by musically?
Phil: I suppose we take a broad range of influences, from more rocky bands such as Yellowcard and Taking Back Sunday, right through to some real pop acts such as Backstreet Boys, Katy Perry and Jonas Brothers.
You like to play covers at your shows, any reason why and what is your favourite to play?
Steve: We usually throw in one cover in our set for a bit of fun really. It’s also for people who haven’t heard us before, so they will know at least one song we play. We make sure it’s always a fun song so people can really move their feet to it.
On your Facebook lots of comments from people thanking you for speaking to them at the shows, how important are fans to you?
Alex: Our fans mean everything to us. If we didn’t have a loyal fan base who come out to our shows then we wouldn’t be doing them.
Phil: We love coming out after we’ve played and meeting everyone who has come along to support us. It’s to say thanks for coming along really. It really does mean the world that they’ve come out of their way to come and see us.
If you were to die and be reincarnated, what would you like to come back as?
Steve: A parrot. Then I could swear at people and they would think it’s cute.
Phil: I have no idea! Probably a bird so I could fly, that would be amazing.
Alex: Probably somebody really iconic like Michael Jackson. Would that even be possible?
Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there...
Phil: You should come to Hit the Deck festival because it’s such an amazing line up for such a cheap price! Also playing are Young Guns, The Blackout, Summerlin, Cancer Bats and loads more. It’s going to be an insane day.
Steve: Yeah it’s going to be awesome. As well as that we are doing a few headline dates for the first time. We can’t wait to take to the stage for our first headline shows. It’s going to be an amazing feeling!
What does the rest of 2011 have in store for you?
Alex: We’re going to be filming a music video for a single to be released later in the year. We’re also writing loads of new material that we’re going to be recording at some point this year.
Steve: Hopefully another support tour.
Any final words for the LeftLion readers?
Phil: Make sure you go check out our new single Doctor Doctor which is out on 10th April.
Steve: Love ya!
Kiss Corona play the Hit The Deck Festival in Nottingham on Sunday 17 April 2011.
