| Ladyfest Nottingham |
Ladyfest is a community-based, not-for-profit global music and arts festival for female artists that features bands, musical groups, performance artists, authors, spoken word and visual artists, and workshops.
The first ever Ladyfest was conducted in Olympia, Washington in August 2000 with over 2000 people attending. Since then the event has branched out all over the world including places such as Berlin, Brooklyn, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, Madrid, Melbourne, San Francisco, Texas, Toronto, New Zealand and now NOTTINGHAM.
This year’s event will take place on Saturday 10 July at the Rescue Rooms. All profits from the gig will go to Roads to Recovery, who support young people and their families who have mental health issues within Nottingham.
Ladyfest Nottingham organiser, Natalie Caulton is a busy mother of 2 boys and is also the bassist for local punk band The Smears. The Smears have toured the UK twice over in the last 12 months since releasing their first album ‘Hell In High Heels’ (Pink Box Records). This year they embark on a tour of the Netherlands and also have dates in Scotland, as well as the rest of the UK.
Natalie says "since touring with The Smears I have met so many amazingly talented women, I wanted to bring them all back home to Nottingham to show everyone that there are great female acts waiting to be discovered in a very male-dominated performance industry. I am so proud of being a part of Nottinghams underground scene, It's great to see a lot of stuff happening at the moment across the city. Nottingham is finaly getting the recognition it deserves as a powerhouse for exciting and original music.
