LIVE: Are You Cumming?

Are You Cumming? was a night of exploitation, debauchery and devilment, as you’d expect from the winning combo of I’m Not From London and the Violent Movie Association, especially with the emergence of White Dolemite, the X-Rated master of all trades himself.

Held in the upstairs room of Spanky’s, with half a caravan presiding over the happenings, there was an air of mayhem about the place that was impossible to ignore. For a mere fiver, the audience were treated to two of Nottingham’s favourite bands, Dick Venom and the Terrortones and Hot Japanese Girl - both of whom ramped the sleaze factor up to epic proportions - and a host of other treats, tricks and trinkets.

Dick Venom and the Terrortones kicked off the night. Dick was in full on Rocky Horroresque glory, sporting stockings, suspenders and not much else, with his trademark Mohican at an almost impossible height, he spat out lyrics while the rest of the band rocked out behind him. Dick is an excellent front man, who never fails to get the audience involved and gives his all at every show. There was sweat, there was mascara and there was attitude.

Between acts, the audience got a bit hot under the collar thanks to the saucy dancing styles and nipple tassels (don’t forget folks, Nottingham has a no topless policy) of Pleased to Tease You, Nottingham’s own Burlesque troupe. Video Matt, looking suave as hell in a white pimp suit also gave out prizes from a Violent Movie Top Trumps style raffle, which included White Dolemite merchandise and a few naughty surprises. On the decks was Clay Davis, who kept the audience in the mood before the arrival of HJG with beats reminiscent of Boogie Nights, but with more acid.

Hot Japanese Girl had a lot to live up to after the Terrortones, but in their typical dirty, sleazy, garage rock way tore up the stage and got the crowd’s blood pumping, whipping everyone into a frenzy with heavy drums and thrashing guitars and the now standard mosh pit forming in front of lead singer, Ali Powers. It was fast, hard and sordid and left the audience begging for more.

Luckily their desire was sated somewhat with a second strutting from Please to Tease You and then an afterparty at a secret location, that kept people dancing, drinking and getting up to mischief ‘til dawn – not for the faint hearted.
