Rebel Soul Collective are the perfect Friday night band. They slay the Bodega Social audience in to submission with a near perfect combination of electro funk, reggae, ska, and just damn good catchy hooks and memorable melodies. The band are as tight as a pair of skinny jeans on one of the hipsters you usually find sitting downstairs in The Bodega Social, that they get in to their stride almost immediately and play with a fierce passion that makes you want to get up and dance the rest of the night away. They keyboards sound like they have boogied their way from an old Stevie Wonder recording session, whilst the drums, bass and guitar unite in an attempt to get the groove locked down, with the raspy, powerful vocals adding a sweet topping to the funk pie that Rebel Soul Collective have cooked up tonight.

Whereas Rebel Soul Collective pick you up by your collar and slam you against the wall demanding that you move your body, in complete contrast, Natalie Duncan and her band gently whisper sweet nothings in to your ear in an attempt to seduce you in to their world of candlelight jazz and smoky soul. Tonight is the launch of Natalie Duncan’s debut EP, and it’s the perfect showcase for her talents. It’s hard to imagine that such a powerful and breathtaking voice is coming out of this petite, pretty young lady who is sat down rather inconspicuously behind her piano. But Natalie and her band play down the bravado and let the music do the talking; taking the audience on a magical musical journey that samples everything from blues, jazz, and soul. Natalie Duncan showed tonight that she is an exceptional talent.
