June 19-26 - Sherwood Art Week is back

Sherwood Art Week

In May 2008, a weekend art exhibition at The Place in Sherwood went down so well that it was suggested that there should be more of this sort of thing, right across the area, all at the same time.

A small group of people were so keen on the idea that they formed a planning committee, got in touch with the Council, and decided to make a serious run at a full week of events held around the one-day Sherwood Festival at Woodthorpe Park.

It was such a roaring success that it's coming back for its second year next week - and it looks set to become one of the key events in the Notts-Art calendar for years to come. Running down Mansfield Road and its offshoots from Sherwood Community Centre to The Gladstone, SAW is a week-long binge of art and craft, with a veritable cornucopia of temporary exhibitions and artist studios springing up all over the place, and local businesses giving up their shopfronts to Notts artists and collectives.

From June 19-26, Sherwood in Nottingham is turning itself into an art gallery, as the high street shops showcase work by local artists, and residents are called on to participate by putting pieces of their own art in their windows...

This popular arts festival promises to be bigger and better than ever, with something for everyone – a packed programme includes :

• Secret Garden Craft Fair
• Family Activity Day
• Art & Craft workshops
• Live music
• Week-long exhibitions
...and much much more!
