Splendour Festival

Splendour Festival returns to Wollaton Park on Saturday 21 July 2012

Splendour has done exceptionally well in the past with line-ups including Blondie, Scissor Sisters, The Pet Shop Boys, Rufus Wainwright and many more; but this year, festival organisers look to be taking it one step further.

Now, not only has it returned, it promises to be better than ever showcasing headliners such as Dizzee Rascal, Razorlight, Katy B and British Folk-punk band, The Levellers. Is it true? Yes, I can guarantee it most certainly is, and these amazing artists will be there to liven up and completely pack out the usually serene Wollaton Hall.

Let’s start with Dizzee. Not only has he headlined top UK festival Bestival along with others, he is a no.1 multiplatinum selling artist, with multiple spots at number one on the UK’s music chart. This year is a big one for Dizzee, as he is preparing the follow up from 2009’s Tongue N’ Cheek, with his DirteeTV mixtape. The tracks suggest he has travelled back to his rap and grime roots, which made him so notorious and were responsible for his rise to fame so suddenly.

Having disappeared off the face of the UK’s music planet for quite some time now, Brit award winners, Razorlight are back. The band along with its front man, Johnny Borrell, make for some deliriously enigmatic viewing, but their popularity within the UK cannot be denied and they will be sure to get Wollaton Hall going along with rising starlet, Katy B.

Katy was an overnight sensation, with a sound that is somewhere between dubstep and grime, she has made waves within the music world, and was most definitely a stand-out artist in 2011 with hits such as Katy on a Mission and her collaboration with Ms. Dynamite in Lights On.

For those who aren’t so keen on the aforementioned, there are The Levellers, who are sure to attract a cult crowd due to their alternative rock history and an enormous popularity that has lasted throughout the years. They made a spectacular performance at Glastonbury in 2010, and this year they will be headlining the second stage at Splendour.

As well as all this there will also be the usual line-up of great Nottingham bands and a very special announcement from our compadres at Nusic about another great opportunity coming up soon.

More acts are yet to be unveiled, but with the king of UK hip-hop making his way to Nottingham for one day only, you would be bonkers to miss it.
