by Sara Sep 11, 2008, 03:44:17 pmThis is where, in the past, I spent many a night out headbanging, feet sticking to the floor, dancing to Rage Against the Machine, The Breeders, Nine Inch Nails and Chilli Peppers! Rock on..
by jonnybulldog Sep 12, 2008, 02:55:39 pmMy favourite gig venue in the country and i've been to alot of gigs all over. Seen some of the most amazing gigs here including Kings of Leon, Queens of the Stone Age, Mark Ronson and Ash.
On a Thursday and Saturday it also turns into Alternative nightclub(after any gigs have taken place), then on Friday you have to cheese of LOVESHACK(90s pop and cheese).
by seamus flannery Sep 18, 2008, 02:53:24 pmThe only memories of my youth are Thursday nights in Rock City. You were always guaranteed to see EVERYONE you knew and probably cop off with all of them too. Excellent playlist that hasn't changed in 5 years (No Diggity, Galvanise, Fix Up Look Sharp, that Prodigy/Max Romeo tune) but absolutely crap beer.
Also the best place in Nottingham for large sized gigs. I've seen Ghostface, KRS One, Guru, De La Soul and loads of other good shows that I can't remember and probably never will.
by floydy Sep 19, 2008, 03:43:06 pmthe cure, bowie, cypress hill, rage against the machine, sonic youth, bad brains, the goats, ramones, ian brown, primal scream, the streets...

Haha, absolutely! Nice concise summary of my sixth form years right there!
by MetricMike Oct 29, 2008, 02:23:58 pmLots of people seem to love this place because it is the only place in Nottingham that regularly puts on name bands and who can complain at that? Well not me, but being a grumpy old man I can complain that the whole place is a filthy s**t hole. Why do music venue owners think that it is acceptable to treat music punters like this? I guess because we let them get away with it and I suppose really it isn't that important.
Rock City does have one HUGE problem though and that's the acoustics. Low end is fine, high end is fine, lower mid frequencies however sound like crap mixed in mud soup. Great example was the recent drum n' bass all dayer. Drum n' bass, and dubstep sounded great (lots of highs and lows but no mids). Roots Manuva was virtually unlistenable to as the vocals and the bass competed as to which sounded worse - awful and easily fixed with acoustic padding an/or material on some surfaces!!! Boom. boom BOOOOOMMMM!!!
by Sir Dancealot Nov 02, 2008, 04:36:32 pmbad beer, sticky floors, a completely flexible atmosphere depending on how sketchy you're feeling.
Good for big name gigs, but even there the sex appeal has gone for me.
As someone said, same playlist for the last 5 years, gets bloody boring. Never been to a good club night at City.
In fact i think the last good gig i went to there was Pitchshifter...
