During a year where life was anything but normal, DHP’s Arboretum residency in 2020 gave us all a dose of the normality we were desperately craving. Although the world may be opening back up, they’re back with a new and expanded event programme.

Arboretum Sunsets is a series of intimate outdoor events, boasting a diverse entertainment programme featuring local and world-renowned musicians, established comedians, food and drink festivals and weekly wellness sessions.

So far the lineup includes sets from Spandau Ballet’s Tony Hadley, X Factor star and singer-songwriter Lucy Spraggan and legendary folk artist Richard Thompson. On a more local front, the launch weekend will feature an acoustic performance from Notts’ Celtic folk-punks Ferocious Dog, and August bank holiday will play host to the return of Homegrown, an all-dayer showcasing the best music the East Midlands has to offer, with names such as Deco, Joel Baker and Catmilk already on the rosta.

Aside from music, Just the Tonic are hosting comedy, and there’ll be music quizzes and bingo to get involved in too. Plus, each Sunday there will be yoga and wellness sessions presented by Sweaty Betty.

In terms of refreshments, The Garden Bar and Bandstand will have two permanent bars and rotating street food vendors throughout the run of events, but there’s two dates in particular that should excite local foodies. First up, on Sunday 11 July, is the Arboretum Beer Festival, an all day extravaganza promising to treat craft drink aficionados to a huge array of local and national beers. If street food is more your bag, you can bag tickets for Nottingham Diners Club’s Street Food Social on Sunday 1 August.

DHP Family’s Managing Director George Akins says: “Last year’s socially distanced events at the Arboretum were a real highlight of the year, giving people the chance to see some great music in a fun, safe and picturesque environment. We’re so pleased to be back bigger and better this year to keep people entertained all summer long.”

Due to its spacious outdoor location, DHP are confident that even if social distancing measures are still in place, all scheduled events will be able to go ahead safely. Some good news at last!

Tickets for all events go on sale on Friday 28th May via www.alttickets.com. There will be a small restoration levy on all tickets (50p for tickets over £10, 25p on tickets up to £10): this will contribute towards sustaining and improving park infrastructure at the Arboretum.
