Home to one of the UK’s largest skateboarding scenes, Nottingham is well known for its vibrant skating community. One name in this community is Skate Nottingham - the non-profit promoting the sport across the city.

In an exciting update, Skate Nottingham will welcome two international charities to Nottingham this week, providing free skateboarding sessions for beginner skaters, alongside a lecture at Nottingham Trent University about the transformational power of skateboarding.

Helping with this aim are two charities - Free Movement Skateboarding and Concrete Jungle Foundation. The former of which works with children from refugee and other marginalised communities in Athens, and the latter of which are committed to running youth programmes in Peru and Jamaica.

During the half-term week these two charities will partner with local community groups, including Skate Nottingham to deliver skateboarding sessions to young people.

Commenting on the project, co-founder of Skate Nottingham Chris Lawton said “We’re incredibly excited to be welcoming Free Movement Skateboarding and Concrete Jungle Foundation to Nottingham, to help us deliver fun half-term skateboarding sessions and learn from their international experiences of working with young people in challenging circumstances.”

There will be a series of events held from the 14 February, largely in St Ann’s and Mapperley.

Notably the The Renewal Trust’s Half-Term Live Holiday Camp, which includes skateboarding sessions on Tuesday 15 and Thursday 17.

There will also be a two hour standalone session that is open to anyone age 7 and over. A link can be found here.
