Complicitè’s performance of Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead is coming to Nottingham Playhouse in April - and it's definitely one for the diary.

The production, directed by Simon McBurney, is based on a “marvellously weird and fablelike mystery” found in the novel by Olga Tokarczuk. The Complicitè company have been working hard to curate a way to disseminate the “controversial, violent, gender-defying” nature of Tokarczuk’s writing through theatrical performances.

Complicitè are an international production company who are constantly creating new theatrical realities with their performances. They have brought various productions to more than forty countries across the globe. Time Out speak very highly of their work, and state that “at the company’s inimitable best, it is a ticket to another world.”

The production of Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead is set to be an intensely thought-provoking rendition of the critically-acclaimed literary work of Tokarczuk; a cleverly curated, fierce manifesto about the relationship between nature and mankind that asks, “What does it mean to be human and what does it mean to be animal, and can we separate the two?”

This production is a perfect way to immerse yourself in the essential and consequentialist conversation around the human intellect

Aside from the fact that Tokarczuk’s received the 2018 Noble Prize in Literature, as well as various other huge awards, his work is a physiological enquiry into the environment and addresses some of humanity’s most pressing questions regarding the nature of ourselves.

Simon McBurney (Complicitès’ Artistic Director) describes Tokarczuk as "a prophet for our times who understands us in all our hilarity, messiness, cruelty and animalism”, going on to say that “it is a great privilege to bring to the stage what is surely one of literature’s most urgent accounts of being alive today.”

So if you're looking to immerse yourself in the essential and consequentialist conversation around the human intellect and challenge the superior characteristics of humanity in relation to nature (and who isn't?), book your ticket for this one right away.

Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead is showing at Nottingham Playhouse from Tuesday 4 to Saturday 8 April
