In late 2021 for the COP26 event in Glasgow, a group of multi-faith individuals (eventually referred to as Caministas) came together and walked from London to Glasgow in an attempt to simultaneously raise awareness for the urgency of climate action, and to connect with the natural world around them; people from all across the country joined them for varying time periods - anything from an hour to a day. Nottingham based documentary filmmaker Ben Wigley journeyed with them to capture the incredible vitality of the people involved in this seemingly insurmountable task.

Ben, who founded ArtDocs in 2010, has been creating documentaries that use a variety of different forms - from performance, experimental film and sculptures - to study the relationship between humanity and the natural world for a while now. His latest - Of Walking on Thin Ice - is another step in his exploration of reoccurring themes through a unique style of form; for this documentary he used a very distinct 16mm Bolex camera to manually record the caministas as they journeyed north by foot. Due to the enormous length of the journey, and the myriad of locations walked through Ben has been able to craft a vividly impressionistic depiction of this pilgrimage; swiftly moving from place to place, watching how the world around the caministas responds to this arduous effort.

Of Walking on Thin Ice is screening for two nights in Nottingham as part of the city's Green Hustle festival, which takes place across the 2nd of June to the 4th. It is joined by a large number of events that range from live music, local street food and a wide range of fringe events in many of Nottingham's finest art spaces, bars and cinemas. As part of the screening of Of Walking on Thin Ice there is a Q&A by Green Hustle organiser Adam Pickering following the Friday screening, and the Saturday screening will be preceded by a walk through Attenborough Nature Reserve starting at 12pm.

More information about these screenings and tickets can be found at Broadway Cinema's website
