It's A Wonderful Life

Arc Cinema

Our good pals at Arc Cinema are putting on a bunch of Festive Classics over the next week or so, and are following it up with some ‘90s Rewind goodness, if you’re after nostalgia that isn’t of the Christmas kind.

Before Santa arrives, you can check out everything from festive all-timers like Home Alone and Die Hard to more recent feelgood films like Arthur Christmas. Alongside that, there’s Elf, Love Actually, The Polar Express and more - so, as the old cliché goes, there really is something for everyone.

Then, in the new year, the ‘90s Rewind film festival will give you the chance to rewatch your favourite flicks on the big screen - or find your new favourite for the very first time. Across the month of January, everything from Titanic to Scream, Shawshank Redemption to Mrs Doubtfire are taking over Arc’s fancy silver screens. Ending this year well and starting the next one even better? Arc, you’re too kind.

Broadway Cinema

The city’s beloved Broadway Cinema put their Christmas schedule into the hands of you lovely lot this year, crafting their festive line-up based on an overwhelming response to a question they put out on social media: “What would you like to see on the big screen this Christmas?”

Said overwhelming response led to a properly varied schedule, with films such as Elf, Die Hard and It’s a Wonderful Life showing alongside more recent hits like Krampus and Carol, while alternative offerings like Tokyo Godfathers emphasise the importance of arthouse cinemas like Broadway - where else would you find a collection of films like this?

Caroline Hennigan, Director of Programming at Broadway, said: “Broadway’s audience are real film aficionados, so who better to help us put together this year’s Christmas programme?” The answer? No one.

Savoy Cinema

There’s arguably no more charming surroundings for the Christmas period than the historic Savoy Cinema - even its colour scheme is Saint Nick-approved. So it makes sense that the Derby Road joint are showing big hitters like Santa Claus: The Movie and The Holiday

Yet among the traditional picks are some more modern yuletide treats, with last year’s Spirited and 2017’s A Bad Moms Christmas also arriving at Savoy - with the latter even coming with a glass of wine or a large soft drink of your choice. Very fancy.

Plus, if you’re after some event cinema to celebrate this December, you can catch Andre Rieu's White Christmas and The Nutcracker ROH 22-23 Season from the comfort of their traditional movie theatre seats.
