Biscuit & Brew are moving to Victoria Street, and they need a bit of help to finish their new tea house and lounge...

Three years ago Dee and Darren moved from their home in Yorkshire to open Biscuit & Brew, a tea house on Hounds Gate, Nottingham.

Dee, a dance teacher by trade, had lost much of her work due to Covid. Darren too, who had mostly distanced himself from the music industry to concentrate on his masters degree in Philosophy, was now working in retail.

They had been developing their own loose leaf tea blends together for a while. At first, it was a way to promote the music Darren had been writing as Arthur Dove, with tea that tasted like the songs he had written.

When Covid hit and they were stuck at home, there wasn't much else to do but dream up new blends. Furloughed and bored, they found a shop for sale on Hounds Gate in Nottingham and decided to take the plunge.

Almost three years later, they're still trading out of that tiny little place,  which has room for only six tables and eighteen people. They’ve built up a reputation for friendly welcomes, innovative breakfasts like Spice Girl and Maple Bacon Banana Bread, their vintage afternoon tea, and of course their passion for developing loose leaf tea blends.

But one thing they have often heard from customers is that they are too small. So, as soon as they noticed that the old Bird & Blend store on Victoria Street had become available to let, they knew they would be able to do something there that they could never do at Hounds Gate.

There's room to house an even bigger café than they already have, with nearly double the space to accommodate those who are in a rush, those who want to restock on loose leaf tea from a takeaway bar, or those who just want to come by and put their feet up in a cosy lounge.

They’ve acquired the building, built new walls, painted, rewired the electrics, accidentally set off the alarms a few times, sanded down the well-worn floors and woodwork, plumbed in everything... and spent a lot of money in the process.

But, they can't do it all on their own. They still need to fill it with tables, chairs, lights, a kitchen and a bar, decorations, and all the finishing touches that will make Biscuit & Brew the place to be.

They’ve got a load of great rewards for anyone who chooses to help, from loose leaf tea bundles to tea tasting events, or if you've always had a tea flavour that you wish they served in the shop but never have, you could even work with them to develop your own tea blend.

So far, they have raised £1,143, and there are twelve days left to help them hit their target and build their new tea house and lounge.
