House Up My Strada! Volume One

So, after my outerspace cosmic themed "Journey to the Planet Blob" mix and just before the next installment of my annual downtempo summer selection that is the "Weegee and Beane Roadtrip" (set to drop in May), I thought I'd start a new mix series, this time focusing on mainly housey sounds and flavours.

In what I hope to be another yearly series, inspired by the great greg wallace, I have put together a nice little selection of housed up sounds spanning some 15 years or so. I say "house" because all the music is loosely based around a 4/4 but it all varies greatly in tempo and style. You've got detroit-style beatdown stuff, soulful vocal affairs, mid-ninties anthems and just a very small splattering of wonk, cos it'd be rude not too.

Anyway - it was fun to put together, some new bits nestling next to some old classics.

House Up My Strada! Volume Two

Here we go then. Masterchef is in full flow and Greg's belly is expanding to preposterous new levels so what better time to launch volume 2 of my yearly house series "House Up My Strada". The reason for starting this ongoing mix series was mainly due to the fact that I rarely play full on house sets these days. The word 'house' means different things to many people but for me I do have a a bit of soft spot for the sort of stuff that came out around the mid to late nineties. Whether it be from the UK, US or Europe. Putting this together I wanted to do a more up-to-date collection of tracks that I've been feeling lately but suddenly found myself digging back in the racks for some of my favourites and only one new record made the final cut! Oh well, you can't beat the classics I guess...

the 4am rekkid on Glasgow Underground is ace isn't it? I rediscovered it going through my boxes to sell some stuff on discogs

I only ever used to play the weatherall cut but the 16b mix has stood the test of time really well

Yeah used to like a lot of old 16b stuff before he got all proggy. Some of the GU stuff still sounds good, had forgotten all about "Jazz the sea turtle". Great title!
