I'm going to buy myself a new iPod soon. I think I want something with lots of memory (either 120gb or 160gb) for less than £200. Looking for a bit of advice from peeps on here.

I'm probably going to go for the 6th Generation iPod classic (I doubt i'll use the extra features of an iPod touch). But i've read a few reviews that suggest they don't last that long and break after a year or so. Is this true?

I have considered buying a non-apple device, but all my stuff is in iTunes. Will consider something else if it's compatible and cheaper. Any advice? Any deals out there that I haven't spotted?

I have that ipod, 120gb, never failed me.Think I've had it for maybe 4 years.
Not sure how other devices compare, but this does the perfect job for me.
I use smart playlists quite alot, and I use it in the car with an itrip all the time.
I don't have any need for any other functions apart from it being able to store and play music,
also quite handy as a portable hard drive.

and you can pull music from it using pod to mac program.

Think i've had my i-pod for about 5 years now and never really had any problem with it. In fact, i think my brother had one of the originals up until a couple of years ago when he gave it to a mate and that things still working to this day. Just do it. I've got a huge cd collection and haven't even filled my 80gb, partly due to the fact that im too lazy to sit down and import cd after cd.

You've got a phone that does everything the ipod does, i don't get it?

use spotify to sync your itunes stuff, basically sack of itunes, use spotify (it'll pull in everything from itunes if you want it to)

and yes, i've got / had an ipod and never bothered with using it much, gave it away in the end. I get that people want a better camera than a camera phone, but i don't get wanting a device that plays music if you have a a phone that plays music just as well.

Phone, wallet and keys; pockets should contain no more than that (camera allowed if you are into taking good photos).

My phone battery lasts about 2hours and the memory can only fit about 10 albums on it. I want to be able to travel with my music collection - not just a few albums from it.

Your phone accepts 32gb sd cards, that's a lot cheaper than an ipod. Battery is a problem i guess, but just charge it at work / carry a usb lead so you can charge it pretty much everywhere you are.

I've heard that the volume is low on them due to some EU law. Is that the case?

Hold up, sorry Jared, misread, i have the 5th generation ipod video, which im guessing was before this EU deafness lark and is plenty loud. I doubt the limiter would have too much of a negative effect if your earphones are decent enough or block exterior noise sufficiently. My misses has a later ipod nano with limiter which is fine but personally id rather have mine as I can bang it up till my ears bleed if i like. The main difference between what I have and the 6th gen is the thickness and this volume thing, personally id go for mine as its not super massive and plays music, im not fussed about the toots and whistles of later gens so if you're not either i'd reccomend it + it will be cheaper

Here, here. More expensive shit to lose, imo. I've never owned an mp3 player, I have a phone that has nearly 100 albums on it and more space to boot. And it's 8.1mp camera. And lasts a few days after being charged. Win.

2 hours battery on your phone - mate, that's shit.

two hours?! sounds like you need a new phone rather than a new ipod!
