If you are aged 13-21 year olds and enjoy writing creatively, The Gentlemen Press is running a short story competition. The chosen winners will be published in the publisher’s first anthology and will receive two free copies of the books.

The title of the anthology is Objection to Perfection and entrants are encouraged to use this title as a starting point for their pieces. Below you will find a list of topics that you can focus on for your short story. The winners will be the most creative writers whether it’s writing in email or texting format or submitting a story that is backwards this is a chance to play with your words.
  • Body image
  • Puberty
  • Friends and relationships
  • Beliefs and tradition
  • Values and expectations
  • Bullying and repression/oppression
  • School and education
  • Rebellion
Any genre is accepted but if the title inspires you to write about another topic please give a short introduction explaining your choice.
The competition will run till 31st January and is open to anyone in the Midlands.

Below you will find the details of each category and a link to enter the competition.

13-15 Category
Enter the 13-15 category
This category will be judged by Jean Ure, a young adult fiction author


16-18 Category
Enter the 16-18 category

This category will be judged by independent publisher, Nine Arches editors, Matt Nunn and Jane Commane.


19-21 Category
Enter the 19-21 category

This category will be judged by David Belbin who can be found at www.davidbelbin.com. He is a young adult author who has written books such as, Love Lessons and The Last Virgin.
