Late Night Lock in - Sat 3rd March

EARL GATESHEAD @ The Golden Fleece

Earl first started Djing in Brixton in 1979, building a sound system and installing it at The Dive Bar in Soho's Chinatown, London. The night he ran there became legendary as Earl began a 20 year residency in the underground venue.

In 2000 Earl began to organise and perform at a series of events called “Reggae Nights”. This legendary series of concerts received world wide attention, with performances from international legends such as; Alton Ellis, Dennis Alcapone, Adrian Sherwood and Saxon Sound System. This run of great success gave Earl a huge boost in profile, which lead him to be one of the most sought after DJs in the country and in high demand from international Reggae artists. He then went on to tour Europe and Australasia with Big Youth, Dr Alimantado and Cutty Ranks amongst others. With such a distinguished career and fantastic attitude Earl has become a figurehead in UK Reggae and in 2002 he was invited to give a lecture at the prestigious Red Bull Music Academy in Sao Paulo.

Earl formed Roots and Reality Sound with Daddy Ad and, as links with the world's greatest reggae label, Trojan records, had become strong, the Sound gradually metamorphised into Trojan Sound System, for whom he remains selector. Earl's London residency is the Rootikal night at East Village where he performs alongside David Rodigan.

Having had David Rodigan a couple of years ago, we can’t wait for Earl to take his turn as selector at The Fleece.
