Now to be honest I wouldn't usually be posting details of my various angling adventures on this forum.
But today I was fishing down at Kodak Lakes in Annesley and this strange creature ended up taking my
redworm bait on a size 20 hook. She wasn't harmed in anyway and the tiny barbless hook came out in
the landing net. (Which was lucky). I've looked up what species it is and it appears to be a South American
'Yellow-Belly Slider' Turtle. Males only grow to 8inch long so this must be a big Mama at 12inch (ish)
I put her straight back after taking this photo, I'm not sure she should be in there though, I reckon some
ones dumped them in there to be honest. I wonder how many are in there? A breeding population or just
a one off. Might have to email Notts A.A. about this in fact.

Check her out She's not looking to happy with me.

Ps: I caught fish too, Honest.

R.

Maybe even the wildlife in the Southern States likes to invade other countries?! Bloody redneck mutant ninja buggers... :D
They've got some good size claws too, I was pretty wary handling it i can tell you. R.

Just found this short vid on YouTube. None of these look as big as my fine looking specimen. I am, It would seem

I emailed Mr David Turner the Nottingham Anglers Association secretary.

This is what he had to say about the turtle Invaders.

Hi *******,
First of all, which lake at Kodak were you fishing as the bottom lake (the one with the fountain & furthest from the Hotel) is not fishable on a NAA book at the moment. If it was this lake then the Turtle could not have been in there that long as last August a pollution incident wiped out every living creature in there. It is not as unusual as you may think, there used to be many of these in Ironmongers Pond at Wilford and I saw one in Bestwood No3 pond many years ago. Not sure of the species but looked very similar.
Regards, David

I'm still none the wiser how long they've been living wild in Nottinghamshire, all though they appear to be fairly widespread according to this info.

Ps: I wasn't fishing in the polluted lake, I knew all about that.
