Joy Mumford

How would you describe your music?
Soulful with a hint of folk.

What was your reaction to the news that you’d be playing the FSN final?
I was really surprised, it was such a close final. The last 24 hours where voting results went private was particularly nerve-wracking. I still feel extremely thankful to everyone who voted.

What can the Rock City crowd expect from your performance?
All new music that hasn’t been released yet. The sort of stuff that people can move to.

Why did you enter FSN?
It’s such an amazing opportunity for any artist. I’ve been to Splendour Festival many times, it’s one of my favourite Nottingham festivals. To play there would be a dream.

Who are your biggest musical influences?
I’m inspired by female artists who write their own lyrics, play instruments or who front high energy bands. Solange Knowles, Corinne Bailey Rae, Brooke Fraser and Janelle Monae to name a few. I must also admit, I’m a bit of a Justin Timberlake super fan.

What are your biggest non-musical influences?
Nature, faith, food and fashion all inspire me in different ways. I decided to spend some of last year making a blog dedicated to all four when I should have been working on my uni dissertation.

What other Nottingham artists do you love at the moment?
Noah. They’re wonderful people, and their music is truthful and beautiful. I also love Joel Baker & Robyn Hughes-Jones. I just adore a unique voice and lyrics that tell a good story.

What's been the highlight of your career so far?
Getting through to final of FSN has to be one major one. Also last year I played Barn On The Farm Festival with lots of other awesome artists like Matt Corby, JP Cooper, George Ezra and Josh Records. It was amazing. I’ll be playing again this year... can’t wait!

How can people find out more about you?
My YouTube channel is a little miss mash of music, fashion, and random challenges and video blogs. You can also find more on Facebook.
