21/06/14 15:50pm Stop Press : Craig Chettle has had to pull out of judging this years FSN; and has been replaced by Denizen Records' Spencer Wells. Spencer has played in bands such as Frankie Goes To Hollywood, managed the likes of James Morrison; discovered Beverly Knight, and worked with plenty of the top artists in the music industry. He just recently signed local lads Shelter Point to RCA records. This guy knows what he's doing!
Despite having the second highest number of entries for FSN ever, the expert judges and the public managed to whittle down all of the entries into just six finalists.
Not only do those artists get to play Rock City, and have the chance to open Splendour festival, but they also get to have their music heard by a panel of influential media and music industry professionals. This gives all the acts plenty of great opportunities. For example, last year, Anton Lockwood liked Sam Jones so much that he put him on Splendour Festival's lineup, even though he didn’t win.
These lot get half the vote, as do the Notts public. Here’s a little rundown of who you need to send your flowers to…
Ali Emm
New to the judging panel this year, we have LeftLion's new Editor on board. Having been a part of the LeftLion team for years, Ali knows plenty about Hoodtown and the local music scene, so she’s a perfect fit to be an FSN judge.
Anton Lockwood
As Promotions Director at at DHP Group, Anton is one of the main organisers behind events as huge as Splendour and Dot to Dot Festival. Starting up his career by setting up his own club night, he then moved on to booking the likes of The White Stripes, The Strokes and The Libertines to come to Nottingham.
Craig Chettle
Craig is the founder and Managing Director of Confetti Media Group, as well as the chair of Notts TV. His career has seen him do everything from tour managing to sound engineering, working with acts such as Tindersticks and Lawnmower Death. He's seen pretty much every side of the industry.
Dom Gourlay
As a journalist for Drowned in Sound, Dom covers some of the most well respected bands in the music industry. DiS, is one of the most read music websites in the world, so impressing Dom could end you up with quite a platform.
Geeta Pendse
An Arts and Culture reporter for BBC East Midlands Today, Geeta returns for her second time as an FSN judge. She has a keen eye for all things creative considering she’s an arts reporter, so make sure you pay attention to detail - she might end up getting you on the telleh.
Mark Dennison
You’ll definitely know Mark for either his voice or his face; cos he’s worked in radio and TV for twenty-odd years. He's well known for his time at Trent FM where he did national network shows; but something you may not know, is that Mark helped Nusic get started back in the early days, and was the man who signed the New Music Podcast to Trent FM, way back in May 2008. Nice guy.
Simon Wilson
As Entertainment Editor at the Nottingham Post, Simon has interviewed pretty much every big name that’s graced Nottingham; from Beyonce to Roger Daltrey, this guys been around a bit. You might’ve seen him on the telly recently as he's been on Notts TV.
The Future Sound of Nottingham Final takes place at Rock City on Sunday 22 June from 6.30pm for free (no tickets required).
