The two increasingly popular Nottingham bands Adelphia and Lacey recently smashed Hit The Deck Festival earlier in the year, and since then, their fan bases haven’t stopped growing. With this in mind, putting them together as a double-headliner at Rock City basement seemed a brilliant idea, and boy did it work.

The first of the two warm-up bands was Cut The Heroics, who kicked the night off well, with the lead singer getting the crowd going from the moment he stepped on stage. The confidence these guys seem to possess is not only fun to watch, but fun to join in with, and you can’t help but thump your arms in the air. Add a heap of musical talent in, and you have yourself yet another young, exciting Nottingham band that you need to keep your eye on.

Hello Tomorrow were then given the job of following an act that had already impressed the ever-growing crowd. The most noticeable thing about the band was how young they were, and despite that, the impressive amount of support they brought with them. Not only did they bring a crowd, they had everyone in the basement jumping with them, as well as the guitarist coming out into the audience. Even though the band possibly played a few too many covers, their fresh, excitable personality made up for it.

It was then time for the first headliner, Lacey, to impress, and by now the crowd were very much geared up and ready to go. With the lads becoming more and more well-known by the day, there may have been a sense of pressure on them to deliver, especially having one of the headline slots. It was apparent straight away, however, that the lads didn’t let that pressure get to them. As usual, they seemed right at home on the stage, and kept everyone jumping up and down and punching their fists in the air. The lead singer had his usual bubbly and infectious personality carrying through the basement, and the sweat that was pouring off them by the end of their set just proved how much energy they put into their music. This band just seem to get better and better with every gig they do.

Adelphia were the last band on and they certainly ended the night with a bang. The hype around these guys this year has been impressive, and it’s easy to see why. Not only do they sound like professional musicians but they look like a professional band too, with exciting lighting through their set, and their cool, calm and collected exterior on stage. They were also feeling risky with this gig, deciding on adding a change of pace, when the mics were lowered, they sat down with their guitars – even the lead singer – and played us a cover of If It Means a Lot To You by A Day To Remember. However, this wasn’t all, as they reached the end of their set, the crowd were clearly not finished with them and demanded an encore, which the boys were happy to oblige, giving us an extra song to finish the night with.

With four bands giving an evening of awesome live music, and an atmosphere that was hard to rival, it’s not a surprise to see the fan base all of these bands have already gained. As for the two headliners, even though they’re two very different bands, the risk of headlining together paid off. Watch out for the names Lacey and Adelphia, because one day they may be headlining Hit The Deck Festival.

Adelphia, Lacey, Hello Tomorrow and Cut The Heroics played at Rock City Basement on Friday 11 July 2014.
