Short Weekends Interview

Last year's recipients of the 'Audience Award', Short Weekends

Can you let me know who is in the band and what you all do?
We've got Cam'ron Murden on guitar and vocals, James Cahill on synth, Tom Hamilton on lead guitar, Warren Gwarazimba on bass and James Bowler on drums

How did you get together?
We got together after me and Tom started jamming together in the school music rooms and gradually we got the others involved and became Short Weekends.

You won the audience award at last year’s Noise From The Next Generation competition. Why did you decided to enter?
We entered the competition because we had a fresh set of new songs so we wanted to get out and play them. We were also encouraged by the staff at Nottingham Music School

And how surprised were you when you won?
We were a little surprised because we went in without any expectations, just happy to play Rock City, so to win an award was just another bonus on top of playing the gig.

Has being part of the competition helped the band in any way?
It's helped us because it was the gig that sort of got the ball rolling for us. That was our first proper gig and we wanted to do more so we got working hard and got a decent set together to gig and we've not looked back since

Why should anyone who is reading this and is eligible enter Noise From The Next Generation?
It's worth entering because even if you don't win an award it's a great gig to do and the atmosphere is brilliant - everyone is proper supportive of each other.

What has been your favourite gig to play in Nottingham?
My favourite gig has gotta be when we supported a band called High Tyde at the Bodega. The Bodega is definitely my favourite venue around Notts so to play there was simply amazing for us. Acoustic Rooms on a Monday Night is also always a good one to play, can't go wrong with it.

What other music coming out of Nottingham can you recommend to us?
In the Teepees, The Chase, Amulet, The Ruffs and Frazier Lowire

How can we find out more about the band and your music?
Us guys are on Facebook, Soundcloud and Instagram if you search up Short Weekends, us lot will come up.

Any final words for the LeftLion readers?
Cheers for reading and keep an eye out for us lot, be on the lookout for our EP in the near future.
