Write Commentby Jared Sep 11, 2008, 04:31:19 pmGreat range of herbal and fruity teas! One of my regular haunts for meeting people for a quick drink and a chat in the day. Also one of the most beautiful and best venues in Nottingham for live music by night.
by Sir Dancealot Nov 04, 2008, 05:04:04 pmIt's all about the white hot chocolate.
Agreed with Jared in that its a nice meeting place, convenient as well bering just off the square.
Wouldnt spend a whole night there (but then ive never seen any performances there... cant imagine how it would work logistically either..), but generally like to pop in if im in the area.
Also, whts hilarious is they have disabled aids in the toliet upstairs.. which made me giggle. Pure porcelain irony
by seamus flannery Nov 05, 2008, 05:56:10 pmDon't you even dare try and dance in there though, Sir. You will be thrown out as a lowly criminal.
by Sir Dancealot Nov 05, 2008, 09:02:22 pmCan i sit in my seat and wiggle?
by seamus flannery Nov 05, 2008, 09:47:54 pmNo dancing means no dancing. I'm sure their licence will permit you to sway a little, though.

Believe it or not, I think that's actually 'accessible'. They have a lift to all floors of the building out back (including the stage) which surprisingly makes this place one of the most accessible bars in Nottingham for disabled people.
The first time I went in this grand old building was about 15years ago - for a coffee when it was called 'Potters House'. It's changed a bit since then, but is still very beautfiul inside. Will be celebrating it's 5th birthday as 'the Malt Cross' before the end of the year. Big up!
by R O B Nov 10, 2008, 02:49:09 pmYep - It has a lift up to the stage area and also to the second floor - so it is wonderfully accessible.
Its a great little place. I think I would even say it is my favourite place in the 'ham.
I've even been lucky enough to have a few lock-ins - the price being to collect pots and wipe the floor a bit. But who cares when you're drunk - plus you get to slide down the balustrade and dance on the bar top.
A real gem of Nottingham . . .
by tom malt cross Jan 16, 2009, 12:19:08 pmNo dancing? dunno where you got that idea from?![]()
you can't have been down on a saturday night yet...? or new years eve... people dancing on everything!!!
by Al (G) Jan 16, 2009, 12:31:19 pmYeah i've danced in the Malt Cross many a time!
by seamus flannery Jan 16, 2009, 12:55:39 pmMy mate said something about when it was reopened from being a music hall years ago, they didn't get a new dancing licence so people weren't allowed to dance in there. I thought it was an interesting fact but it's probably a load of old bollocks. I myself have rocked out to Kids in Tracksuits and Full Fat there before. Great night!
by Haych Jan 25, 2009, 03:29:57 pmA very pleasant pub. Totally aggro-free in my experience also.
by shinybingohalls Feb 25, 2009, 11:42:57 amGreat bands on a Saturday night that get everyone up dancing and a lovely chilled out place to go for a few beers in the week. One of my favourite places to go in Nottingham.

The bear sat in a chair giving free sermons over two turntables. Proper lolly
by Stuart Frew Aug 17, 2009, 10:37:09 amI love this place and find it difficult to find a fault with it at all. A beautiful hidden gem of Nottingham - right in the centre of the city.

by tom malt cross Jan 21, 2010, 11:35:40 amAh, Its a shame people think you are not able to dance in here!
YOU ARE! Its just from an old licence restriction where bars were not allowed people to dance unless you had a clear marked out dance area!
We have also just had a bar extension, which we are very proud of, which means we can serve more people and faster too.. Real ales have gone on the bar, which are a massive success.. And we still do our 'filled with love and naughtiness' hot chocolates..
So come and shake your money maker on a saturday night, and you can stay, we promise!
