A love story between a pencil factory worker and his girlfriend set in a dystopian industrial wasteland, this midnight classic is anything but a romance. Influenced by the writings of Franz Kafka and Nikolai Gogol, Lynch's densely packed tale has to be experienced on the big screen to be fully understood.

“More than 40 years after its creation, David Lynch still refuses to reveal how he constructed – or conjured – the mewling, feverish monster baby at the heart of his downward-spiraling DIY debut. His commitment to preserving the mystery is admirable, but we can safely assume some kind of puppetry was involved, lovingly hand-crafted by Lynch and his committed team of non-professional filmmakers.” –Tom Huddleston, BFI
