Did you know that Nottingham is built upon a system of caves, hand-carved from the sandstone cliffs? Dating back to the 9th century, these caves were used by the people of Nottingham for many different and ingenious reasons – from living and working to bomb shelters, wells, and covert meeting spaces.

Join our expert team for a drop-in session sharing some of the stories and archaeological finds in the caves. Due to the historic nature of the caves, they are inaccessible to those with mobility issues – so we will be hosting these sessions at the entrance to the City of Caves which is accessible by ramp, allowing those who may not usually be able to explore the Caves to engage with the history of this fascinating site.
