Bassekou Kouyate is a master of the ngoni, an ancient traditional West African lute. With his band, Ngoni Ba, including ngoni players, percussionists (tama, yabara, calebasse) and vocals, he revolutionised the ngoni sound and centuries of griot tradition. One of Africa’s premier global artists, Bassekou collaborated with Ali Farka Touré, Toumani Diabaté, Taj Mahal, and The Kronos Quartet. His album Miri was voted ‘Best Album of the Year’ by Songlines magazine.
