JT Soar, Low Point & Nottingham Record Co-op Present:
Easter Island Head with support from XAM Duo.
Ex-Easter Island Head are a UK-based musical group composing and performing music for solid body electric guitar, percussion and other instruments.
Primarily performing as a quartet, the group incorporate multiple electric guitars augmented through mechanical preparations and extended techniques to create works that explore group interplay, repetition and melodic invention through purposefully limited means.
Their records Mallet Guitars One, Two & Three, Large Electric Ensemble and Twenty-Two Strings have been released to significant critical acclaim from the likes of The Wire, Pitchfork, The Quietus and The New York Times.
The group have received airplay on the BBC, ABC, German National Radio and more with their music favourably compared to the likes of Steve Reich, Glenn Branca and John Cage.
Collaborators include musicians of the BBC Philharmonic and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic orchestras, Birmingham international Dance Festival (with choreographer/artist Kei Miyata) and composer Arnold Dreyblatt.
This performance (Ex-Easter Island Head’s first in Nottingham in nearly eight years) will see the band perform in the Victorian Courtroom of the National Justice Museum, promising a unique setting for one of the country’s most innovative bands.
Yorkshire-based songwriters Matthew Benn and Christopher Duffin have been collaborating as XAM Duo since 2015. The pair create music that feels as if it’s designed to accompany times of concentration and calm.
Their second LP, simply titled XAM Duo II, was released by Sonic Cathedral in 2022 which consisted of warm ambient pieces and kosmische meditations using synths, percussion, saxophone and piano.
Friday 23rd June 2023, 8pm in the Victorian Courtroom at National Justice Museum, High Pavement, Nottingham.
£12.50 standard and £14 supporter advance tickets via Nottingham Record Co-op and Gigantic. £15 on the door.
Supporter tickets enable us to make this event as inclusive as possible. We will make a £10 ticket available for NUS, Universal Credit and low waged folk. Please contact Nottingham Record Co-op directly to obtain one via FB page or [email protected] Thanks
