Form: A Solo Exhibition by Andrew Spinks

This September, Surface welcomes Andrew Spinks, and a solo exhibition entitled Form. 

Form is the first exhibition of abstract drawings by award-winning filmmaker, graphic artist, and musician, Andrew Spinks. It’s form, but what is it? Formless form? Forming form? Some kind of nebula akin to that found in the realms of outer space? Unintentional imagery appears in the drawings; the result of artistic subconscious or of divine / supernatural guidance? Form presents work from the past 15 years, created using a technique devised by the artist during a stay in hospital for mental health treatment, to answer the question of what to draw when no intention is present other than the will to create. Form also features a selection of drawings from the artist’s work on film posters, album covers and concept art, which invite the audience to see the work in its most raw and intimate state.

Form opens in the Project Space in conjunction with The Deca-dance of Mr Ray: A Solo Exhibition by Martin Rayment in the Main Gallery. As always, there will be a donations bar with ales from local brewery, Pheasantry.
