Make your own sumptuous tassel inspired by the Talleyrand Bed with textile artist Ruth Waller.

Join us to try your hand at the endangered heritage craft of Passementerie, the art of making elaborate trimmings including tassels. Ruth will guide you through the process, with an array of textured threads to choose from.

The Talleyrand Bed is currently on show in our museum. This elaborate bed dates from the late eighteenth century and originally belonged to the French politician the Prince de Talleyrand. It is covered in 160m of silk trimmings, all sewn by hand, and will provide the perfect inspiration for your tassel.

All materials and equipment will be provided.

This workshop is part of Meet + Make, a series of public engagement events running alongside our contemporary exhibition Work Life: Life’s Work.
