Drawing It Out

Why do we draw? Created by City Arts’ Young Producers group, this exhibition explores some of the many different forms that drawing can take. They range from drawing for design to fine art.

Drawing is at centre of most artistic endeavour. It allows us to explore ideas. It can help us confront and let go of our fears. It is a way to share our feelings with the outside world. There are multiple reasons people feel motivated to draw. Each artist in this exhibition has approached drawing with a different motivation.

The Young Producers have worked with guest curator Anne Forgan to bring you this exhibition.

About the Curator

Anne Forgan is an artist, producer and curator. She makes artworks, installations, performative and socially engaged projects. She investigates everyday objects and places, for evidence of their origin stories. As a maker, she works across artforms but is drawn to the slowness of craft. 

She is also one of the Co-Artistic Directors of Ludic Rooms; a socially-engaged arts and technology company, based in Coventry. Ludic Rooms create projects that build human connection, civic engagement and transformation of space, using technologies including cardboard, gaffer tape, motion capture and VR. 

About the Young Producers Takeover

Young Producers is a group for 18-30 year olds looking to be a part of Nottingham’s thriving creative scene. The group support and encourage each other to take part in the arts. City Arts supports the group with resources, funding and advice.

Young Producers meet monthly to share skills, plan events and exhibitions, and explore the local arts scene. Each November, Young Producers takeover the City Arts building for a mini-festival.
