Eskate is an upbeat film demonstrating that sometimes even when you're at your lowest ebb, fate throws you a lifeline - or in this case, a skateboard. A homeless man, Tom, discovers a discarded skateboard in a backstreet alley, which takes him back to his youth and happier times for one eventful day.
Eskate was created by Catch22, a charity based at Radford Unity Complex on Ilkeston Road. It's part of the Community Channel’s Talent Studio project, a national filmmaking project created and run by young people from challenging backgrounds, giving them the chance to tell their stories and get their voices heard.
The group recieved filmmaking training by a dedicated professional media trainer and were supported by volunteer media industry mentor and ITV Central presenter, Louisa James.
Community Channel’s Talent Studio is delivered by Media Trust in partnership with two young people’s charities, Fairbridge and Catch22 and funded through the Big Lottery Fund. Talent Studio will deliver 72 film courses in two years across four cities, involving 576 young people. Community Channel can be viewed on Sky 539, Virgin TV 233 and Freeview 87.
