Climate Cat Productions’ fifteen minute short film Pearl is about care worker Craig who may be somewhat of a lad, but seems to genuinely care for one of the sheltered housing tenants; an elderly lady called Pearl, played by newcomer Beryl Moss (a part which bizarrely received interest from a twelve-year-old girl and a sixty-year-old man). It is a sensitive and, at times, shocking snapshot of care work.
Formed in 2010, Climate Cat is really only a kitten. Carrie Motherwell and Kevin Dean kicked it all off, with Matt Allen (who played Craig in the film) becoming a part of the team soon after. This is one of their first shorts together, but you can catch episodes of their imaginary dog comedy - Charlie El Perro - on their YouTube channel. Having been shown at Nottingham Contemporary and awarded best in show at New College Nottingham, Pearl is definitely not a bad start for their portfolio. They are currently working on a new short film now and hope to build upon its success thus far.
