Boasting a brand new ice rink, Winter Wonderland has returned to Nottingham...

The weather is getting colder, everyone’s pulling out their big coats and Nottingham’s Winter Wonderland is back in the Market Square, with a whole series of attractions - including an aerial sky ice path which allows you to skate above the market itself, and a ski chalet-style bar in which you can cosy the evening away, enjoying a few pints or a bit of dinner from the Melt & Grill. All of which is enough to tempt us LeftLion lot into a visit.

Just missing the rain, it’s five by the time we wander down after a day in the office, and I’m glad to be greeted by a Baileys Hot Chocolate from the Sur La Piste - one of the many drinks available from their Winter Warmers list - and begin to wander around the market.

Met with a sprinkling of faux snow, it’s like stepping into a Christmas oasis, despite it only being mid-November, and I’m charmed by the German market-style stalls, brimming with Christmas lights and greenery and selling everything ranging from artisan cheese and local chutney all the way to jewellery and plants.

There is also a wide range of food stalls, which includes: hot roast carvery, filled Yorkshire pudding wraps, churros topped with chocolate, hot roasted chestnuts, raclette cheese over crispy potatoes and more. Many vegan and vegetarian options are also available, particularly at the Filthy Vegan who are selling their ‘Famous Filthy Kebab.’

The most striking feature of the market is, of course, the Observation Wheel, which, alongside the Sky Skate and the toboggan rides, is one of the Wonderland's main attractions. Heading up, we experience some of the most striking views of the Market Square lit up with the stalls and the tall Christmas tree, which sits squarely in the centre. The ride, which costs £7.50 a head, really allows us to take in the whole scope of the Winter Wonderland.

Not previously mentioned, the market also boasts a range of other bars from which you can enjoy the Square. Notably, the Helter Skelter bar in which children can play as their parents enjoy a drink, the Alpine Ice Bar packed with incredible ice sculptures, and Altitude, the all- glass chalet bar offering panoramic views of the festivities.

Running from now up until the end of December, it’s the perfect place to get started on your Christmas shopping, enjoy an activity packed day out, or to simply soak in the ambience with a drink in hand.

Winter Wonderland runs in the Market Square from November 15 - December 31 2022. Closed on Christmas day
