For over a decade we at LeftLion have run an online events directory offering a service to events promoters, organisations and venues across the city. We are delighted to let you know we’ll soon be seriously upping our game…

Our website LeftLion.co.uk currently receives over 50,000 visitors each month and many of those visit us to find out about events going on in the city of Nottingham. You can view the current version of our events directory online now.

Now, as we celebrate our 20th year we have taken some time to look at what we are doing and how we can do it better. Earlier this year we submitted a bid to Innovate UK, the UK’s national innovation agency, and we are excited to announce that we were successful.

“We are truly delighted to receive this funding from Innovate UK to reinvigorate our online events portal” said LeftLion Technical Director and Co-Founder Al Gilby.

“When public events stopped in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic it made us look at what we were doing and how we could do it better. We started to make a wish-list of how we could improve upon our ageing system and we’ve been working since to develop it further.”

“The funding from Innovate UK has meant we are able to dedicate time and resources this year, that we would not otherwise have been able to, on developing and launching a new portal. We believe this will not only be a major boost to LeftLion and our events-loving readers, but also to everyone involved in event promotion across the city of Nottingham.”

Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, is the UK’s innovation agency. They work to create a better future by inspiring, involving and investing in businesses developing life-changing innovations. They provide targeted sectors with expertise, facilities and funding to test, demonstrate and evolve their ideas, driving UK productivity and economic growth.

Over the coming months we will be rolling out this new system for events on the url www.notts.com. This new portal will feed events back into leftlion.co.uk in a more robust and user-friendly way than before. However, it will also be able to interact with and feed other websites and platforms across our local cultural industries.

Rest assured, if you currently use our events system as a reader or as a promoter then normal service will be resumed right up until we are ready to launch. However, you might notice the odd change here and there. We are also planning to relaunch the events listings pages in our printed magazine once the new system is launched.

If you are an events promoter or you work with a local venue and you would like to be part of a group helping us trial our new system before launch please contact us on [email protected]

We are also interested to hear from organisations in the city who might benefit from a high-quality and low-maintenance feed of Nottingham-based events into their own websites and digital portals too.

If you are a reader who enjoys using our system for events please make sure you are signed up to our newsletter and follow us on our social media to be first to know when the new system is ready to launch.

We have a favour to ask

LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the established organisations to the grassroots. We want to keep what we do free to all to access, but increasingly we are relying on revenue from our readers to continue. Can you spare a few quid each month to support us?
