reading time: min, words
Accordion, glockenspiel and electronics at CAST as part of Neat14 on Wednesday 28 May

So, who plays what in the band?
We have piano, accordion, sampler, glockenspiel, trumpet, guitar, ukulele and a few drums.  We all more or less play everything (to a moderate degree).

Can you describe your band in 3 words?
Hopeful glittery jigsaw.

You’re playing CAST at Nottingham Playhouse on 28 May, as part of the neat14 festival.  What can people expect from the show?
Three people melting electronics around a tapestry of accordion melodies drowning in a glockenspiel frenzy.

What’s your most memorable gig so far?
Sometimes we play with a lamp show where we've wired up our instruments to 20 or so charity shop lamps so they flicker, dance and fade in time to our songs. In the autumn time we played one of these in a church in London and we were dead proud of us.

If you could get anyone (alive or dead) in to play with you, who would you choose?
Madonna, it's always been about Madonna.

What was the last album that you bought?
Never Fear Total Failure by Ghost Twins. Utterly stunning album!

What was the last book you read?
I read In Watermelon Sugar by Richard Brautigan last weekend in one sitting and I don't think I ever need read another book again.

What is coming up for you over the next year?
We're currently writing for our next album, we're going back into Snug Recording Co in Derby over the summer so all being well we'll have another release within the year.  We've also got lots of festivals planned including one by a Fjord in Norway. We're also playing at LauLand in Gateshead at the end of May which is a weekend curated by Lau who we toured with in November.

Do you have any advice (good or otherwise) that you'd like to share?
If you want to keep your shit together always take bananas and bumbags on tour.

Haiku Salut perform as part of Neat14 at CAST on Wednesday 28 May 2014.
