Back for the new term, with a preview for the Circus Extravaganza on Saturday and some words with the President

LeftLion's dedicated student podcast is back for the new term, after a summer of working hard and trying to claw some money back so we have some money for our final year.

This Month...
Rosa finally appears to have found a new co-host! Oli Ward is about to enter his second year as a student at Nottingham University and first heard of LeftLion whilst on a bus backpacking across the east coast of Australia (seriously!). Since then he’s spent a fun year in the city and shares some of his experiences with us – as well as agreeing to co-present from now on.

The President is also in the house! David Cameron Walker (below right) might sound uncomfortably close to the name of an eminent Tory politician, but he’s actually a top bloke and the current president of the Nottingham Trent Students Union. He talks us through his new job and gives us a good grounding in what the union actually do.

NTU President David WalkerWe also talk to David Blenkey, a student who stayed, about his time as a student in Nottingham and his subsequent career in design with his company Woot (including being the Art Director of LeftLion Magazine), as well as his new band The Hum who make their Nottingham debut this weekend at the LeftLion Circus Extravaganza.

Finally we play you a little skit called Internet Lovin’ from former Lo-Ego singer turned-funnyman Martin Collins. We recommend you take a good read through his blog.

Student bands and artists - GIVE US YOUR TUNES!
No matter what genre you are, we can play you (as long as you're good), so get your MP3s over to us by email right now. When you send us your tunes you're giving us the legal right to play it on our podcasts. Oh, and your band name, biog and URLs and forthcoming gig info would be handy, an'all.

We have a favour to ask…

LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the established organisations to the grassroots. We want to keep what we do free to all to access, but increasingly we are relying on revenue from our readers to continue. Can you spare a few quid each month to support us?
